Where's the Cat in the Hat?

We were at Hastings yesterday renting Captain America (cheap plug) and read that they were having the Cat in the Hat there the next day.  So today at the prescribed time we showed up cause the kids were super stoked to see him.

Now it was nothing special.  Just some person (I couldn't tell you if it was a boy or a girl.  Personally I thought he was kind of feminine.) in a Cat in the Hat costume.  The kids loved it though.  Especially Sam.  So much so that I'm surprised we didn't get shushed or told to shut up.  As the Hastings worker read Cat and the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham he had to compete over Sam saying "Hi Cat!" to the Cat in the Hat.  It seemed all the other parents there thought it funny because everyone kept chuckling when he's yell it from his spot on the floor three feet away.  He finally calmed down during Green Eggs and Ham, but you could tell he was still bursting with excitement.

When the worker was finished reading the two books we had an opportunity to take pictures with the Cat.  At that point Sam freaked out and ran away saying "I'm afraid."  We finally were able to get him in the picture and he seemed to enjoy it.

Well, while the kids were occupied with coloring sheets and cookies, the Cat made his escape.  Sam turned to find him missing and hijinks ensued.  We kept losing him in the store as he went to search for the Cat in the Hat.   The first time he disappeared I found him in the cafe yelling to people "Where's the Cat in the Hat?  He was here, but I can't find him."  I was able to wrangle him up and head toward the door, but we stopped to look at something and found him gone again.  This time I found him talking to the Jack Links Sasquatch display.  "Where's the Cat in the Hat?  Have you seen him?  You haven't?  Where did he go?"  It was all I could do to not break down hysterically laughing in the middle of Hastings.

We were finally able to get him out of the store.  We stopped at the Common Cents there in the same parking lot.  It's one we always go to, so we know all of the attendants personally.  (How sad is that?)  Upon entering Sam quickly rushed behind the counter and began telling Bonnie, the older lady that works there, about seeing the Cat in the Hat and if she knew where he was.  Of course she didn't, but that didn't stop him from asking her a couple more times.
