Thor

So I went and saw it on opening day. First time I've been able to do that in a long time. The planets must have aligned or something. What was my first thought? Well for those of you that follow me on facebook (Which is most of you cuz you're all friends) it was EPIC. I'm not sure how to describe it. It's got a great superhero discovering himself in the real world and fantasy world that you used to seeing in Lord of the Rings or something. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I had doubts about Kenneth Branagh when I heard about him, but the longer I thought about it the more sense it made. Who else would you want to direct a film about a Old English speaking superhero? The only thing is he went above and beyond.

Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder was great. His portrayal as the glory seeking "child" to the hero/king he's meant to be was inspiring. He seemed to be a viking personified. The other thing that I enjoyed watching was Loki. You knew he was evil from the start, but you almost done see it coming. Not to mention the Warriors Three and Sif. I've never followed the Thor comics, but I enjoyed the characters thoroughly, and I think they did the characters justice.

I guess the only thing that bothered me was the character of Odin. I had always thought that Odin was supposed to be more hard edged. Like I said I've never really followed the comics, so he could, for all I know, have been written that way. I was just always under the assumption that he was more of a jerk. This is in no way saying that Anthony Hopkins performance was horrible. He did great. I'm sure that was the character that was written for him. This is no way saying that I disliked the character. I felt for him and thought he was a good dad. I figured I had to nit pick at something. Isn't that the way it is in movie reviews?

All in all I really enjoyed the film. Thor and Hulk were the ones I most looked forward to. I've always been a Hulk fan and who doesn't love to see a dude in armor throw around a big hammer. Another home run for marvel!

  1. Odin usually is more of a tough-as-stone kinda guy in the books. I think they sorta showed it it the movie but not really. When he cast out Thor is the most we got. I just attributed this to not enough time. If they could have focused more on him, I think we would have seen this more.

  2. I thought it might be something like that. I thought he might be a little gruffer in the comics, but wasn't sure. It didn't really bother me too bad, but I thought I'd comment on it.
